Monumental "Live Edge" Table in Philippine Molave Wood
A masterpiece of art cabinetry and organic design, this majestic dining table, measuring 3 meters in length, is a unique piece sculpted from a solid slab of Philippine Molave wood. From a rare and precious species renowned for its extreme density, this sculptural furniture required an entire week of hand-sanding and polishing to reveal its silky touch and the depth of its grain. A raw yet functional work of art designed to last for centuries.
Visual Impact: The Raw Power of "Live Edge" Style
This table immediately asserts itself as the focal point of any interior due to its stature and its complete respect for the original shape of the tree.
A Spectaculary Thick Top: With its approximately 9 cm thickness, the solid Molave wood top features irregular "Live Edge" sides, preserving the movements and outgrowths of the original bark.
Sculptural Bases: The table rests on two imposing monolithic solid wood bases. One of them, in particular, is a truly raw sculpture reminiscent of the textured and tormented base of a century-old trunk, offering perfect seating and stability to support the colossal weight of the ensemble.
The Art of Fine Restoration: The Cabinetmaker's Work
Far from concealing the natural imperfections of the material, the craftsmanship enhances them for aesthetic reasons and practical use:
Macassar Ebony Butterflies and Keys: The large natural scars and cracks running through the top and bases have been stabilized and joined by magnificent cabinetmaker's keys in the shape of butterflies (or dovetails) crafted from Macassar Ebony. This precious dark black wood creates a striking graphic contrast with the golden hue of the Molave.
Decorative Partitioning: On the widest part of the top, a larger crack has been filled and accentuated by a succession of thin strips and small, closely spaced ebony splines. This meticulous craftsmanship perfectly smooths the table surface, allowing dishes, glasses, and plates to be placed with complete stability, transforming a natural flaw into a spectacular decorative element.

💡 Gallerist's Advice
"Given its exceptional weight of nearly 400 kg, this table is fortunately detachable into three parts to facilitate its transport and installation. Its physical presence is such that it pairs beautifully with chairs of clean, airy design — like braided Scandinavian-style models that allow the eye to wander and highlight the graphic contrasts of the Macassar ebony."
